Tina’s Cuban Cuisine
179 Madison Ave (33/34) | 23 West 56th St

It took us a long time to get ourselves to Tina’s, but we have now visited her twice in a week. That’s extremely rare for us, but we just can’t stop thinking about this Cuban comfort hole-in-the-wall. I love fusion and innovative combinations, but sometimes nothing hits the spot like a heaping plate of meat, rice, and beans. We have tried the pernil (pork) with pickled onions and rice & beans (pictured) and the ropa vieja with tostones and boiled yuca. Both were fantastic and only $9 each – and that includes the two sides. The sandwiches ($6.95) and shakes ($3) are great too. It’s the kind of place where everything is really authentic and satisfying. Tina’s offers cafeteria and table service, and while she’s easy to pass by on the street, don’t do it, she’s worth a visit, maybe several.
